Normal Isn't Just a Town in Illinois

As you enter perimenopause and menopause, you may start to think that there is no such thing as normal anymore except for a town in Illinois. If you’re wondering how a town received such a name, Governor William Bissell signed a bill to create a normal school in 1857. The term "normal" was based on the French teaching schools and was the general name for all schools set up to be teachers’ colleges. So the town took on the name because of the school. Today, Normal spans 16.92 square miles and has a population of 50,519. Do the people in normal live normal lives and feel normal? Hmmmmm.

Marketers and investors talk about “The New Normal” dealing with the challenges in today’s economy and facing things as they are, not as they were.

Perhaps there’s a lesson for us in the “new normal” too. Economists and companies are told the trick is to get real about the new set of challenges we face and what it takes to win in an environment where there are no shortcuts.

Perimenopause and Menopause may be your new normal. This time of life can last from a month to 10 years…or longer. It seems we spend a lot of energy lamenting “what was” when we may need to get real about the new set of challenges we face.

There are at least 35 recognized challenges related to menopause, and that’s just the ones we can put a “title” on. So the real question becomes…what are we going to do about it?

Here’s a pep talk for those of us longing for the “good ole days” that are now past:
1) What’s happening to you is normal, it’s just not the normal you’re used to.
2) Your journey while having many similarities will also be very individual. It is as unique as you are.
3) There’s a ton of information out there! Educate yourself from reliable sources and take the time to understand what is going on in your body.
4) Do what you can. Eat right, watch caffeine, and realize that even if you’ve always been able to do what you want and not gain weight, you probably can’t anymore. More exercise is a reality if you want to offset that appetite.
5) Talk to your girlfriends. They are “walking a mile in your shoes” and yes, misery does love company!
6) Be good to yourself. Quit comparing yourself to unrealistic models in magazines and stop thinking you’re going to look and feel like you did when you were 20. Accept the beauty and wisdom in your stage of life. Do the best you can this day with what is put on your plate, literally and figuratively!!!
7) Take Remifemin® and/or Remifemin® Good Night. We’ve got the science and the track record to be a real solution to some of the things you are going through.
8) Blog and talk to women around the country…you are not alone!

By the way…is anyone reading this from Normal, Illinois? We’d love to hear more about your town. Let’s hear your thoughts on the “new normal” and blog your own pep talk…we all need to hear from you!

    Hi Carol,
Welcome to the blog and I'm so happy you found us and I have so much to tell you, I hope you're check back to see this answer! (Let me know...you can also email me at michele@remifemin.com)
Everything you're going through is NORMAL..and all part of the journey of menopause. There was such a demand for samples that they did start to get sent out a little slower in July...but give it another week, if you don't get it...email me and I'll check into for you. Things to remember...I'm not sure what you've been "burned" by, but Remifemin is the most clinically studied answer for relief for a change. It is not a drug and therefore takes time to work in your body. Clincial studies showed results in 4 weeks, with the best results after 12 weeks of consistent use. That's one tablet in the morning and one in the evening. You will find a wealth of information at www.remifemin.com. We also have Remifemin Good Night, a brand new product that gives you your daily dose of Remifemin in one evening tablet, plus a restful sleep blend that has been shown to improve sleeplessness... again, refer to www.remifemin.com
Many women experience relief for a change remarkably fast, others take more time. We're all individuals! If your symptoms are severe, you can also take more than the two tables daily of Remifemin....at the site on the top white line is FAQ. Go there to find all kinds of answers about Remifemin. From personal experience, I can tell you Remifemin is really helping me. You will see many other women have been helped also on the testimonial page at the site. Don't be afraid to talk with your doctor ...keep exercising, watching your caffeine....all things that will help. Hang in there, keep me posted...and remember we're here to help!

    Hello Michele,
I have been off HRT since March and during that time my stress levels were shooting to the moon. I tried some creams off and on and then totally stopped everything. Needless to say, I do not experience a great nights sleep, and I kick the covers off more than once. I had a complete hysterectomy 6 years ago, thats when I began estrogen. What I am wondering, when do you know when to stop using remifemin

    Hi Kathleen,
Thanks for blogging! Thanks for the question too...you've been on the roller coaster trying to find what's going to work for you. The ansewr is you can stay on Remifemin as long as you are having the symptoms you don't want. I've had women write me that they went off, they symptoms were still there, so they hopped right back on. The reocmmendation is to stay on six months...and go off if you want to. If the symtpoms return, you still need it and you can start right back up. It's important to remember you can increase your dose if your symptoms are severe. From the Remifemin website:
Can I double the dosage? It seems to not be working any more for me.
Clinical trials on Remifemin have used dosages up to 127 mg daily. There is no contraindication to increasing the dosage if desired. It is important to remember that menopause is not marked by a straight decline of estrogen production. There are peaks and valleys, and menopause symptoms may also increase and decrease before disappearing entirely.

Remifemin Good Night, our new product, contains your full daily dose of Remifemin, plus a Restful Sleep Blend, all in one tablet you take at night. If your symptoms are severe, take an addtional regular Remifemin in the morning. This is what's working best for me right now as sleeping was becoming a big issue for me. Keep blogging and I'm here for your questions...also you can email me at michele@remifemin.com Take care!

    HI Michelle,
I've been in perimenopause for a few years. My doctor put me on a low dose birth control pill and it was controlling my periods but not my night sweats and sleeping and I did gain weight too! I decided to go off the pill as I really do not like being on it and started taking Remifemin in July. I have used natural products before and am familiar with how long they may take but I seem to have been getting results right away! Am I just lucky? I went off of it for the week I was supposed to have my period and still no night sweats! I am confused though, I am not sure if I should go off of it for that week or stay on? This is my first month using it so not too sure what to do there concerning my period. They have been normal(by normal I mean once a month and not very substantial) since taking the pill but not sure what they will do now that I am off and on Remifemin. This first one was okay but came late and still not very substantial which is fine with me. Are women in perimenopause supposed to be on this too? I hope so because it seems to be working. Please advise. Vicky

    Hi Vicky,
Thanks for blogging, good to hear from you. Getting results right away is very possible...I get lots of mail from women who have been on a month and haven't realized any results yet, so yes, you are lucky or blessed! Clnical studies showed the best results fell within the 8 to 12 week stage.

Should you go off and on it? No. This is an herb that builds up in your body, not a drug you take when you have a symptom. You should take it consistently for optium results, consistently. Remifemin is estrogen-free. Unlike the medications you're on, it doesn't affect you in that way. The erractic periods are just part of perimenopause and one of the main ways you know you are in perimenopause. Yes...Remifemin is for perimenopause and menopause...any time you are noticing the differences and having the symptoms. Menopause is defined as a full year without having a period. Everything before that full year is described as perimenopause. We often refer to it as menopause, because that's how most women refer to the whole process. Go to the Remifemin website,www.remifemin.com and look for the FAQ, on the top line...soon to be on the side navigation...and read the questions and answers there. You will find them very helpful as you will the whole site including menopause matters.
    Bottom line:

Stay consistently on your Remifemin, don't go on and off it.

It's estrogen-free, and erratic periods are just a part of perimenopause.

I'm glad you're getting such good results. Take care and keep blogging!

    Hi Ala,
Thanks for coming to the blog so all the women who see it can benefit from your question...and hopefully my answerThanks for emailing me! Unfortunately, I can’t recommend any other black cohosh, because some have proven to be unreliable. Only Remifemin has the clinically proven RemiSure™ Black Cohosh, which showed the great results in testing. In a recent Web MD article:

    http://www.webmd.com/content/Article/121/114330.htm

They site the great variable in black cohosh products and even the fact that some products didn’t even contain black cohosh! I can vouch for Remifemin's safety and efficacy…it’s been used safely by women in Europe for 50 years.

Remifemin has a unique, proprietary extraction and processing of the plant which is why it works when other don’t. It’s the old “you get what you pay for,”

I understand your price concerns, but paying for something that doesn’t do anything for you seems like a bigger waste of money.

I hope this helps as you decide what's best for you.
